Pair arrested

NASSAU, N.Y. – Thirty-year-old James Brown and 25 year-old Kayla Morey arrested by state police and charged with these four counts: Conspiracy to produce child pornography, production of child pornography, along with transporting and possessing material involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

"It's surprising," said David Doherty, a former neighbor of the pair. "It's scary. It's unsettling."
Brown and Morey used to live at the Chadwick Manor Apartments in Nassau. Others living in the same building as the couple aren't shocked about Brown, known to them as "J.B."
"He's always been a problem up here, actually he was more like a menace up here. He caused all types of problems," said Doherty. "He was a violent person. It doesn't surprise me at all that this happened."

But for Theresa Ashley, who has lived in the complex 9 years, Morey's involvement is a huge surprise.
"With Kayla, I am very shocked because why would she? She's got a daughter, I can't understand why she would do something like this," said Ashley.
The two apparently moved out over the summer, but the news still stings.
"When I find out when people are living that close to me and have done those things, I get very uptight," said Ashley. "I don't allow my nieces or nephews to go in that direction, they either stay out here on my patio or they stay in the house."
"I think he has to go to jail for a long time, I hate to say it," said Doherty. "He's a predator on society and society has to be protected from something like this."
James Brown was actually in jail in Franklin County at the time these charges were pressed against him. Both he and Morey were put in the custody of United States Marshals.
