Castleton Library names new director

Amy Lynn Peker will take the reigns of the Castleton Library beginning January 18, 2011.  Amy earned a MS in Information Studies with a concentration in library and information services from the State University of New York, at Albany, with a BS in Mass Communication concentrating in production from SUNY Oneonta.  She holds a New York Sate Public Librarians Professional Certificate.

Amy's continuing education included workshops with the University of Wisconsin, and Upper Hudson Library Systems which included the programs: What's New in Children's  Books, This Ain't Your Mama's Library and Close Encounter with THOSE People; a different perspective on diversity and disability.

"It was a tough decision,  said Geoffrey Flynn, President of the Castleton Library Board of Trustees.  "The search committee had presented the board with two truly fine candidates.  Peker just wowed the majority of the folks in executive session with a very strong interview."

Most recently, Perker has served as Library Assistant in the Albany Public Library and Brunsick Community Library and Graduate Assistant at the NYS Library in Albany.
She also worked as an Information Specialist with the NYS Small Business Development Center.  Amy's skills include Website and Graphic Design as well as experience with library systems Aleph, SirsiDynix Unicor, WorldCat and Horizon. She created and manages the website providing information to create and support a sustainable environment.

The Friends of the Castleton Library invite the community to a welcome reception to introduce Amy and to enjoy some light refreshments.  The reception is scheduled for  Saturday, January 22 from 10:00 -11:00 a.m.
