Newly elected officials Sworn in on January 1, 2011
Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C-Melrose), Senator Roy McDonald, (R, C, IP) 43rd Senate District and Troy City Civil Judge Matt Turner took their oaths of office in a swearing-in ceremony on January 1, 2011, at the Rensselaer County Courthouse in Troy.
Neil J. Kelleher, Chairman of the Rensselaer County Republican Committee addressed the audience, congratulated the newly and re-elected representatives saying “I think the people of [New York] are will be well served.”
Inside the packed courtroom, oaths were administered by Surrogate Court Judge, the Honorable Christian Hummel.
Steve McLaughlin was sworn in as the new representative of the 108th Assembly District. McLaughlin won election to the Assembly after defeating Tim Gordon. Following his oath, he thanked his family for their support.
"I'm humbled by the trust that the people of the 108th Assembly district have placed in me," he said. "I am keenly aware of the problems that we face as a state and as a nation and I am ready to go to work with the Governor to try to fix those problems."
He also said that these problems are of our own making, but that they can be fixed. "We have to have the courage to take action to fix those problems and do what is morally right for the people of New York State."
"We owe it to our children to get this state back on the right track, we have to get this country back on the right track in order to be prosperous and live out the American Dream."
Congressman- elect Chris Gibson was in attendance for the ceremony and will take his oath of office in Washington D.C., on January 5.

Elected officials in attendance included County Executive, Kathleen Jimino, Legislator, Alex Shannon, Legislative Liaison, Richard Crist, Director of Communications for the Rensselaer County Legislature, County Clerk Frank Merola, Sheriff Jack Mahar and Chairman of the Legislature, Martin Reid. Troy's Mayor Harry Tutunjian was in attendance as well.
