The Castleton Fire Company hosted the graduation of firefighters from companies in and around Schodack.
Congratulations to our newest firefighters for completing the 29 week NY State Firefighter I class.
The recent graduates of the NYS Firefighter 1 class completed 86 hours of training provided by the NYS office of fire prevention and control. The training is provided at no charge to the recruit firefighter or the department they come from. After completing firefighter 1 recruits will have been trained in numerous rescue needs, working with hose lines and other extinguishing agents, using ladders and fighting various types of fires. Recruits will have worked in a number of live fire situations from vehicle fires to building fires working in hazardous environments and room temperatures in excess of 1,000 degrees. In all they should be prepared to handle the emergencies they will face in there respective departments.
