Work begins on Dunn Memorial Bridge
Motorists who frequent the Dunn Memorial Bridge may have a tougher commute. Beginning Monday the massive $12 million construction project gets started. Motorists could face delays and lane closures. Crews began closing lanes across the bridge for the work. Two eastbound lanes are closed reducing traffic to one lane. One westbound lane is also closed. These lanes will remain closed until the fall, when the traffic pattern will switch once again where crews will work on the remaining lanes.
The state Department of Transportation says the bridge is one of the Albany area's most heavily traveled. It's estimated that more than 36,000 travelers cross the bridge every day.
Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2012.
