Fresh Organic Produce

Goff Farmer’s Market open July through August

students at marketLooking for fresh organic produce, herbs and flowers this summer? Goff Middle School’s Farmer’s Market, located on Gilligan Road in East Greenbush, is open for business!

The Farmer’s Market features items grown in the school’s Organic Garden by student and adult volunteers and is open to the public 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout July and August.

Profits are used to pay for next year’s garden supplies, including seeds, fertilizer and tools. At the end of each week, any unsold produce is donated to local soup kitchens and food pantries.

During the summer months, middle school students operate the retail business selling items from the garden. Students get practical experience picking, packaging and weighing the produce, calculating costs and making change for their customers.

The environmentally friendly half-acre garden has produced a wide variety of fresh, organically grown vegetables, herbs and flowers since 2003. No synthetic herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used. In addition to an in-ground water supply and on-ground drip irrigation, the garden’s barn roof has solar panels that provide electricity for the garden and market’s day-to-day operations.
