EG Schools give Back

EAST GREENBUSH, November 22, 2011  -- The East Greenbush Central School District embodied the spirit of Thanksgiving by giving back to its school community.

Columbia High School’s Leaders of Tomorrow and the Student Council organized a food driver for CoNSERNS-U (Community Network of Schodack, East Greenbush, Rensselaer, Nassau, and Sand Lake United).  Through the caring and generosity of Columbia’s school community, 80 cases of food were delivered on Tuesday afternoon, November 22nd.

Colleen Pidgeon, CoNSERNS-U Program Coordinator stated, “We distributed 450 Thanksgiving Food Baskets yesterday, almost wiping out our food supplies.  The donations coming in today from Columbia High School are so much appreciated.  I’d like to thank all of the school in the East Greenbush Central School District for their help.  It takes a community to feed a community.”

The District’s Howard L. Goff Middle School donated over 100 fully cooked meals to the Missing Link Street Ministry in Troy. The dinners were prepared as part of the school’s annual staff and Questar turkey dinner.

Thanksgiving is a very special time for the District’s Bell Top Elementary School Community. For the last five years, it is also a time where the staff supports the efforts of the Connecting Point Church to make sure that all of the Bell Top families have a joyous and traditional Thanksgiving Day. The Bell Top staff pooled their personal resources and purchased 27 Price Chopper coupons which are redeemable for either a turkey or a ham. The Connecting Point Church donated the rest of the Thanksgiving dinner fixings, and arranged and prepared 20 baskets. In addition, the North Greenbush Kiwanis Club, supported the school's Thanksgiving efforts by donating 15 bags of food and Price Chopper gift cards.  Throughout the day and evening on November 21st and 22nd, the designated families came to Bell Top to pick up their baskets.
