Castleton man arrested, charged with alleged sexual abuse against a child

Photo: Joseph N. RietfortEAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. – A 23-year-old man has been arrested after authorities say he endangered the welfare of a child by promoting, using, and possessing a sexual performance by the child.
The East Greenbush Police Department in conjunction with the NYS Police / ICAC, or Internet Crimes against Children Unit, has arrested, Joseph N. Rietfort, 23, of Western Road in Castleton.
He is charged with the following:
  • (Felony) Use of a Child less Than 17 years of age in a Sex Performance
  • (Felony) Promoting a Sexual Performance By a Child
  • (Felony) Possessing Sexual Performance By a Child
  • (Misdemeanor) Endangering the Welfare of a Child
During the month of May, Rietfort used a child less than 17-years old in a sexual performance by displaying, photographing and disseminating photographs of the child's genitals in a lewd exhibition, according to authorities. He also endangered the welfare of the child by photographing the child and causing the photographs to be disseminated via the internet.
Rietfort was arraigned and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail on $50,000 bail. He is due back in East Greenbush Town Court on July 8, 2013 for a preliminary hearing.
