MALTA
GlobalFoundries will host a public open house event at its Fab 8 campus from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11.
The event will give area residents an interactive, educational experience to learn about the company, the Fab 8 campus and the semiconductor industry.
In a “show-and-tell” demonstration, people will get an up-close look at patterned wafers, packaged chips and reticles used in the manufacturing process.
Visitors also will see the special “bunny” suits that employees wear in the clean room and learn what it takes to manufacture a semiconductor wafer.
During the event, people will follow the steps, or modules, that a wafer goes through during the manufacturing process.
In addition, company officials will tell guests about Fab 8’s development and operations. It is the world’s most advanced semiconductor manufacturing foundry campus.
To reach Fab 8 from Route 9 in Malta, turn on to Stone Break Road and head east into Luther Forest Technology Campus. Take the second right turn at the roundabout and head up the hill toward the Fab 8 construction site. Follow the “Employee/Visitor Entrance” signs to the designated parking area.
During the open house, checks totaling $30,000 will be presented to VetHelpNY, Malta Ridge Fire Department, Round Lake Fire Department and Malta Ambulance at 6 p.m. Proceeds are from the fourth annual Malta Business and Professional Association’s 5K race.
