New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued this statement following the sentencing:
“Today’s decision sent a simple message that officials who abuse the public’s trust will be held accountable. Justice was served.”Prior to his sentencing, Silver, his wife, and lawyers asked for leniency because of the good the 72-year-old has done and his diagnosis of prostate cancer.
Silver was convicted in November 2015 in the $5 million corruption case.
