EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police are looking for a driver accused of slamming into an East Greenbush business and another vehicle Tuesday morning.
The crash had schools on lockout, a helicopter searching in the air, and residents on edge. One driver, whose vehicle hit, was left stunned on the side of the road.
Leif Guldfeldt says his pickup was struck while attempting to make a left turn off of Columbia Turnpike.

“It was jarring. I didn’t know what hit me.”
Police say the damaging crash with one vehicle slammed into a building and another in pieces was the end result of a short police chase.
Around 11:20 a.m. a patrol officer in Albany spotted the vehicle which had been reported as stolen. The officer then followed the blue Acura SUV across the Dunn Memorial bridge and attempted to pull it over on the other side.
“The vehicle fled and headed up Routes 9 and 20 in East Greenbush where it collided with a pickup truck. The blue Acura then crashed into a building,” Steve Smith, of the Albany Police Department, said.
Smith says an injured female passenger was taken into custody near the scene, and then handed over to EMTs.
From above and below, four different law enforcement agencies searched for the driver near the Rensselaer train station and behind this home on Hampton Avenue.
The large search has since been scaled back. Police say they know who they are looking for and will continue a smaller searching effort.
