Which Way Will the Wind Blow?
Please attend a public forum about fracked gas, health problems and environmental racism from the proposed Sheridan Hollow power plant. The event will be at the First United Methodist Church, 1 Gilligan Road, East Greenbush on Monday, June 25 at 6:30 pm.
Featured speakers include Merton Simpson, Albany County Legislator of Sheridan Hollow and Co-Chair of the Sheridan Hollow Alliance for Renewable Energy (SHARE) who will talk about the proposed project and SHARE’s work to build renewable energy alternatives for the region; and Dr. David Carpenter, Director of the Institute for Health & Environment at the University of Albany. Dr. Carpenter has done extensive research on the health effects of fracking.
Governor Cuomo has proposed to build a new fracked gas power plant in downtown Albany, blocks from the Capitol and directly across the river from Rensselaer, in Sheridan Hollow/Arbor Hill. This is a densely populated, poor, ethnic neighborhood that is still living with the toxic legacy of the ANSWERS garbage incinerator plant that closed in the 1990s.
Governor Cuomo banned fracking in New York State due to the health hazards of fracked gas. Why is he proposing to build a new fracked gas power plant at all?
This event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline (SNYFGP), and is co-sponsored by Sheridan Hollow Alliance for Renewable Energy (SNARE), NY Climate Advocacy Project and Community Advocates for Sustainable Energy (CASE).
Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline is a grassroots organization made up of hundreds of residents in Rensselaer and Columbia Counties formed to fight the proposed NED pipeline and which continues to work for a fossil fuel free future.
