Schodack Democrats Scholarship Application Now Available
The Schodack Democratic Club awards scholarships annually to high school seniors who are Schodack residents. The purpose of this non-partisan award is to encourage future student participation in and study of the United States government at the local, state and national level.
There will be two scholarships awarded prior to graduation for college bound students, one award to a graduating senior from Columbia High School and one award to a graduating senior from Maple Hill High School. A $250 scholarship will be given towards freshman year expenses at an accredited 2 or 4 year college. The scholarship will be awarded at the high school awards ceremony.
Qualifications:
- Resident of Schodack
- A graduating senior from either Maple Hill High School or Columbia High School who is in good standing
- Has shown potential in understanding American democracy
- Has successfully completed the PIG (Participation in Government) class
- Complete Scholarship Application form, available at Guidance Counselor’s office (or download a copy at the Schodack Democrats website: www.schodackdemocrats.com)
- Two letters of recommendation: One letter from a social studies teacher at the student’s high school and a second letter from an adult - such as a scout or other volunteer leader, employer, clergy, etc. - who has knowledge of the student's work ethic, volunteerism or community involvement.
- Essay 500 – 750 words Choose one of these topics.

3. What does the phrase 'All politics are local' mean to you? Use examples.
