PRESS RELEASE:
Eden Renewables Now Accepting Applications for $5,000 Green STEM Scholarship Program
High School Seniors in Duanesburg, Glen, and Schodack Pursuing a Career in Green STEM are Invited to Apply by June 5th
New York - Troy-based community solar developer Eden Renewables is calling for applications for its 2020 Green STEM Scholarship Program for graduating high school seniors, valued at a total of $5,000. Students pursuing a career in fields that benefit the environment or conserve natural resources are invited to apply before the deadline of June 5th.
Eden’s Green STEM Scholarship Program was established to support student interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics that investigate, design and implement solutions for local and global environmental issues. This year, Eden will be awarding 3 scholarships in the amounts of $2,000 for Duanesburg, $2,000 for Glen, and $1,000 for Schodack, linking to Eden’s community solar projects in each town. The first such scholarship was awarded in 2019 to Mariella Hirschoff of Maple Hill Junior-Senior High School in Schodack.
Eden’s Chief Development Officer Giovanni Maruca said: “We are excited to once again be giving scholarships to help further the education of three meritorious students. The more students there are pursuing a career in Green STEM, the more hope we have for a cleaner future.”
Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, and statement of goals and aspirations. Once selected, recipients will be notified and formally awarded with the scholarship at each school’s awards night or graduation ceremony.
To be eligible, applicants must be a high school senior residing in Duanesburg, Glen, or Schodack and enrolled in the town’s central school district; have a minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA; and be accepted into a 2 or 4-year college or university and enrolled in Green STEM or related discipline. A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or employer, and a 500-word statement of purpose regarding educational plans and professional aspirations in Green STEM must be submitted with the application to be considered.
