Making way for a better Columbia Turnpike
Weathervane restaurant demolished in East Greenbush
By Eric Anderson Updated 8:45 pm, Wednesday, June 1, 2016
Columbia Turnpike has long been East Greenbush's "main street," Conway said. But traffic in recent years has been drawn away by nearby Interstate 90.
The town plans to announce a package of incentives for Columbia Turnpike, and also will step up enforcement of existing codes addressing issues ranging from signs to abandoned vehicles.
It's also seeking grants to install sidewalks along the road, and Conway said the town will "do a lot of landscaping" at the water treatment facility on the town's western edge to make a more attractive entry.
Wednesday's demolition of the derelict restaurant building "signals the end of the decline of Columbia Turnpike," Conway said.

RENSSELAER - A significant drug bust yielded dozens marijuana plants, heroin and other illegal drugs.
Troy police are calling it “the prize” at the end of a very intense, two-month-long multi-jurisdictional investigation.
Some of the items seized were put on display Troy Police headquarters. It was an undercover Troy Police narcotics operation along with Rensselaer City Police and Rensselaer County probation investigators who raided a home at 1466 Fourth St. in Rensselaer.
Inside they found what’s described as an elaborate marijuana growing operation. There were at least 60 marijuana plants, but there was much more -- including heroin, ecstasy, steroids, $12,000 cash and a fake gun. According to police, all of the drug equipment was purchased online.

RENSSELAER, N.Y. – It was announced on Monday that Governor Andrew Cuomo sent a letter to the Gaming Commission, asking them to reopen the bidding process for the Southern Tier, and now the Rensselaer mayor wants in.
Mayor Dan Dwyer is now demanding answers and a review of the Gaming Commission.
In a letter to Cuomo, Dwyer states he wants to see a so-called “score card” on how Rensselaer and Hard Rock were beat out by the Rivers Casino in Schenectady.

Cuomo’s intervention into the casino debate comes after he said the decision was solely up to the Gaming Commission and after board chairman Kevin Law stressed the commission had no plans to issue the fourth license.“I need some answers,” he said.
