Fire devastates Jersey shore

Furious efforts to restore a Jersey shore boardwalk hard-hit by Superstorm Sandy last year were undone Thursday by a wind-whipped fire that wiped out more than 50 businesses in Seaside Park and Seaside Heights. Firefighters worked for hours to bring the 6-alarm blaze that began in a frozen custard stand under control.

How you can help

***Update!  The East Greenbush Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary are still collecting...the truck pull out next weekend so there is still time to donate...there is a need for Cleaning products and personal care items.

The East Greenbush Fire Company & Ladies Auxiliary are collecting basic necessities for victims of Hurricane Sandy, Friday, November 9th 4p-8p & Saturday, November 10th Noon-8p at the Park Station Fire House, 68 Phillips Rd,  East Greenbush. 
We are collecting blankets, sleeping bags, water, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, soap, diapers, baby food & formula, batteries, pet food, new socks, new underwear, bleach, shovels, work gloves, face masks, heavy duty garbage bags, gift cards, non-perishable foods and other basic necessities. Can also use band-aids, neosporin, ace bandages, Advil, Tylenol.

All donations will be brought downstate to New York City next weekend after the collection.

School districts are taking no chances in anticipation of the possibility of rain and damaging winds associated with Sandy. Local schools closing ahead of the Super Storm.
