Gibson makes good on shutdown promise

Updated: Monday, December 23 2013, 06:31 PM EST HUDSON -- Republican congressman Chris Gibson said he wouldn't accept his pay during the government shutdown back in October.

On Monday, he made good on the promise. Gibson donated his salary from that time to a Catholic charities food pantry in Hudson. His wife, Mary Jo, volunteers there. As part of the donation, he and his wife, along with staff members, helped prepare the Christmas baskets. The Congressman says it felt like a good way to give back to the community. The baskets will be distributed to families in Columbia and Greene Counties.

CHS Athletes' Holiday Help

Members of the CHS athletic family spent the last several weeks collecting gifts for Adopt-A-Family and Adopt-A-Senior. Organized by East Greenbush Athletic Director Mike Leonard, students and staff collected gifts for eight local families and many senior citizens that were dropped off to the Rensselaer County Social Services building earlier today.

“I am extremely proud of the effort these students put in to help bring smiles to local families during the upcoming holidays,” said Leonard. “CHS has once again showed its community spirit through good works like this gift drive. Our students realize how comforting it is to deliver hope and joy to their fellow community members during difficult times and their good deeds should be commended.”

CNN Reporter Sums Up Everything Horrible About School Shootings In One Quote

This, it would seem, is where things are in a country beset by these kinds of events over and over: something that should be a horrible aberration is instead common enough for everybody—the media, the government, the police—to slip back into a mode they know all too well.
