Subject: Barnes and Noble Fundraiser to benefit the Castleton Public Library!
 
On Saturday, November 19th, 10am-10pm there will be a fundraiser at Barnes and Noble, Colonie Center, to benefit the Castleton Public Library. A portion of sales, when accompanied with voucher (see our website: (www.castletonpubliclibrary.org) will go to the Castleton Public Library! In addition, the Friends will have many raffle baskets available that day. $1/chance to win! There will be many activities hosted by the Friends of the Library throughout the day. Stop by to enjoy music, dancing, storytelling and crafts! Please see the library’s website for a list of times and activities!

ICC Schodack Merger?

ICC, Schodack mull timeline for possible merger

KINDERHOOK -- The Ichabod Crane and Schodack School Boards held a special meeting Tuesday, October 11 to discuss the Functional Consolidation Study the districts are conducting. Though no decisions have been made about whether the two districts will merge, they did talk about a time line that would be followed if they do decide to hold votes on consolidation.

Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum recently pledged to "die on that hill" fighting against same-sex marriage, and made a similar vow to repeal all federal funding for contraception because it is "a license to do things in a sexual realm."


Price Chopper files suit against competitor Shoprite


A Price Chopper representative confirms the grocery store chain filed a lawsuit Thursday evening against ShopRite Supermarkets, after discovering weblinks that used the name "Price Chopper" and directed customers to Shoprite's site

Reorganization Feasibility Study

The Ichabod Crane and Schodack Central School District Boards of Education gathered together on October 11 to discuss how to proceed with the Reorganization Feasibility Study once the 
Community Advisory Committee has finished its work.

While a potential merger would likely be more than a year away if both communities agreed, Mr. Bordick noted that the study has already helped both districts by highlighting areas where they can work together to reduce costs and/or increase student opportunities.

"I predict that next year's budget will include shared services between the districts," Mr. Bordick said.

CBAT Meeting Reminder

Just a friendly reminder about our CBAT meeting for this Wednesday 6:00 PM High School Library. 

Ralph Lamonta will be joining us to explain the Averill Park Educational Foundation. We will also have an update on the merger study as well as an overview of the property tax cap and what it means to Schodack.

Quit Smoking

 

The Nassau Free Library will sponsor a series of free classes designed to help people who want to break the smoking habit.  Sessions will take place at the library from 6:30-8 p.m. on October 18th, 20th, and 25th.

Blue Devils Division Champs

EAST GREENBUSH — Columbia running back Chris Smith played the game of his life Friday night. In doing so, the Blue Devils won the Class AA Liberty Division championship.

Columbia shut down the Colonie offense holding the Garnet Raiders to 136 total yards. Garnet Raiders’ quarterback Steve Wutzer completed only three of 15 passes for 41 yards. The Columbia defense intercepted a pass.
