State Police confirm ID’s in Schodack double murder suicide

PRESS RELEASE

State Police confirm the identities of the deceased in the January 13th double murder suicide that occurred in the town of Schodack.

Preliminary investigation has determined that 14-year-old Jasleen Kaur and 55-year-old Manjeet Kaur, both of Castleton on the Hudson, died as a result of gunshot wounds sustained during a domestic incident that occurred at their residence at approximately 9:30 p.m. last evening. The shooter, who is identified as 57-year-old Bhupinder Singh, also a resident of the home, was located deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. All three of the deceased were located inside the home.

A fourth resident, 40-year-old Rashpal Kaur, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm, but was able to flee the residence. She is being treated at Albany Medical Center, her wounds are non-life-threatening.

This investigation has been carried out in conjunction with Schodack Police Department and the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office. State police would also like to thank Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, Village of Nassau Police Department, Nassau Ambulance, Castleton Volunteer Ambulance, Mohawk Ambulance, and W.F. Bruen Rescue Squad for their assistance.

The investigation continues, updates will be posted to the newsroom.

Tiffany Van Alstyne indicted for murder of Kenneth White ALBANY -- Albany District Attorney David Soares announced on Friday that Tiffany Van Alstyne, 20, had been indicted for the murder of 5-year-old Kenneth White. Van Alstyne was indicted by a grand jury on two counts of second degree murder and one count of first degree manslaughter. She's accused of killing her cousin Kenneth on December 18th near the home on Thacher Park Road in Knox where the boy was living with his aunt, Van Alstyne's mother. Van Alstyne is expected to be arraigned in county court sometime next week.

Kenneth White's father denied custody of other two kids

Jayson White hoped to get custody of his two daughters who were in the Knox trailer home last week when their brother, Kenneth White, 5, was murdered.
Their cousin, Tiffany VanAlstyne is charged with killing him.
Many aspects of the family's history came to light inside that court room that led the judge to believe it's in best interest of Kenneth’s sisters to remain in foster care.
Kenneth's father, Jayson White, broke down crying when his custody was denied.
“I'm here to fight for my kids. I will fight ‘til my dying day for them kids to stay out of the home where they had to witness their brother get murdered in cold blood,” he vowed.

Police have arrested a cousin in connection with the death of a 5-year-old Kenneth White of Berne.

Tiffany VanAlstyne, 19, is now charged with second-degree murder.

Jamell Steven Modest, 46, of Schenectady, was charged Dec. 14, 2014 in the shooting death of Marika Booth, who also went by Marika Harris. 

Booth was near her infant at the time she was shot and killed.
