Schodack Democrats Hold Summer Food Drive July 28

Schodack Democrats are holding their summer food drive on Saturday, July 28 to help fill the shelves of The Anchor Food Pantry in the Village of Castleton. Summer is a particularly hard time for families. Children are out of school and have no access to school breakfast and lunch programs which so many families depend on, so please give generously.

Our Summer 2012 Food Drive will take place in the areas of
Sunset Hills, Doelner, Byers and Golf Estates, Brookview, Schuurman, Sunset, Western and Stony Point roads. Residents who live in these areas received a flyer on Saturday, July 21. Food donations should be put in a bag or box with the flyer attached and placed where it is visible from the road. Pick up is on Saturday, July 28 starting at 10 a.m. Donations can also be dropped off that morning at the Peter Andrews VFW Hall on Scott Ave., Castleton.

Please remember we can not accept food with an expired use-by date.

Thank you for helping your neighbors in need!

Springsteen, McCartney silenced by London curfew

London's flamboyant mayor, Boris Johnson, said Sunday that the singers should have been allowed to keep going.

"It sounds to me like an excessively efficacious decision," he told London radio. "You won't get that during the Olympics. If they'd have called me, my answer would have been for them to jam in the name of the Lord!"

...the curfew had been laid down by the authorities "in the interest of the public's health and safety."
