Budget Woes -
The Schodack Central School District is working and re-working the budget for the upcoming school. Right off the bat, talks of cuts strike fear into the community;
The possibility of a 2% Property Tax Levy Cap Could Impact Our Educational Program with:
- Higher student class size
- Fewer course offerings and electives
- Less instructional support across the District
- Reduction in non-instructional support positions
- Reduction of non-mandated programs and services
- Greater reliance on the use of one-time reserves and fund balance to support the budget
- While tax relief is always a sweet indulgence for politicians during troubled economic times, imposing a property tax cap will have significant implications for local school districts, which have already shed programs, jobs and even buildings for the last two years.
