East Greenbush Town Board passes casino resolution

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. -- The East Greenbush Town Board passed a resolution in support of a casino on Thursday.
Residents have been split on the idea of building a casino; some saying residents haven’t had enough say in where the casino would be built. Others are looking forward to the possible influx of jobs and boost to the town’s economy.

NORTH GREENBUSH, NY (June 12, 2014) — Residents of Rensselaer County are invited to visit Eastwyck Village (1720 Best Rd., North Greenbush) on Wednesday, June 18 as part of Choice Connections’ Parade of Homes — a half-day tour that will stop at four local senior independent living communities.

A perfect stranger pours her heart out to me over thphone. She complains that her six-year-old son is unable to sit still in the classroom. The school wants to test him for ADHD (attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder). This sounds familiar, I think to myself. As a pediatric occupational therapist, I've noticed that this is a fairly common problem today.
The mother goes on to explain how her son comes home every day with a yellow smiley face. 
In order for children to learn, they need to be able to pay attention. In order to pay attention, we need to let them move.

Tony Awards air tonight!

The Tony Awards will be handed out this Sunday, and this year's show is getting a big dose of Hollywood star power from TV and movie stars who have made the leap to the Broadway stage. New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley says more and more screen stars like Daniel Craig and his Oscar-winning wife Rachel Weisz are jumping to the stage to prove themselves, and sharpen their skills.      Even proven veterans like X-Men stars Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen performed on Broadway this year.     The Tony Awards  air Sunday night at 8 on CBS6.

WWII Veteran Denied Leave from His Nursing Home to Attend D-Day Celebration Makes a Great Escape

If the Nazis couldn't stop Bernard Jordan,the nursing home had no chances against this resourceful man.

WWII veteran Bernard Jordan of Britain’s Royal Navy was refused leave to attend the D-Day 70th anniversary celebrations in Normandy. So he escaped from his nursing home in England and traveled to the event without notifying the authorities.
The staff at the nursing home, The Pines Care Home, called the police and reported him missing.

Jordan had tried to attend the official trip that was being put together by the Royal Legion, Britain’s veterans organization, but there were no spots available.

ALBANY, NY – The spirit of the Olympic Movement will roll into Albany, as STRIDE Adaptive Sports hosts a 5K & 2.5K Run, Walk ‘n’ Roll combined event in celebration of Olympic Day.

On Saturday, June 21st, the 5th annual “Strides 4 STRIDE” event will kick off at 9am with a 5K race starting at Albany’s Jennings Landing Ampitheatre and leading participants down a fast, flat course through the Corning Preserve riverfront. Chip timing will be provided by ARE Event Productions. At 10am, athletes, family, friends, and community members will join together for a 2.5K community walk ‘n’ wheelchair roll awareness demonstration, promoting healthy, active lifestyles, regardless of disability. This family-friendly event also includes a 400-meter tot run (5 yrs. or less), a bouncy house, free chair massages, and fun activities with Sparky the Clown and Goofball, including face-painting, temporary tattoos, and balloon making.

East Greenbush casino plan draws more business support

More Capital Region business owners, and another local government, have come out in favor of a $300 million resort casino in East Greenbush, New York.

The developers of the proposed casino today announced endorsements fromStewart's Shops Chairman William Dakeand Rose & Kiernan, Inc. Chairman John F. Murray.
"The Casino at East Greenbush will help strengthen its community and provide good paying jobs for Capital Region residents,"Dake said. "We are proud to support a business that shares our core beliefs and we look forward to having a strong partner in our mission to improve the quality of life in upstate New York."
