Preventing Substance Abuse Event – Tuesday, Mar. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
Maple Hill High School will host "United to Fight It: Preventing Substance Abuse" on Tuesday, Mar. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium. The event will feature part of a film on the subject followed by a panel discussion. The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department will also collect unused or expired medication for proper disposal at the event. More info.

Community Advocates for Sustainable Energy (CASE)* is sponsoring a public forum about today’s diverse solar electricity energy choices on Wednesday, March 28th at 6:30 pm at the First United Methodist Church at 1 Gilligan Rd. East Greenbush.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be available.
Event moderator is Bill Reinhardt, Albany County legislator and Solarize Albany director.
Becky Meier of CASE will present a Power Point slide show about local solar energy choices.

Teams from Goff Middle School and Donald P. Sutherland Elementary School placed third in their events.

Maple Hill High School will host its annual Hoops Against Hunger charity basketball game on Friday, Mar. 9 at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $3 or $2 with a canned food or non-perishable food item.
All proceeds of the event benefit The Anchor. "Come on out and watch your favorite 'out of shape and past their prime' teachers compete against each other in a fun event for a good cause. Hope to see you there!" said organizer Pat Austin.

Confronted with weather-related delays that pushed back the start of her 2018 Winter Games. the American ski star captured the keen mental edge it takes to ski on the edge, but not beyond, to win Olympic gold in the women's giant slalom.
In Sochi, an 18-year-old Shiffrin won gold in slalom but finished fifth in GS. She vowed to become No. 1 in GS, too.
Turning 23 next month, she is now a two-time Olympic champion, winner of a first medal for the United States in women's giant slalom since Julia Mancuso's Torino 2006 gold. Shiffrin is also just the sixth woman in Olympic history to win gold in both the slalom and giant slalom, joining the likes of Andrea Mead-Lawrence of the United States and Croatia's Janica Kostelic.
