Soccer Team Plays in State Championship; Earns Sportsmanship Award

The Maple Hill Boys’ Soccer team advanced to the Class C State Championship on November 20, falling just short of a state title with a 2-1 loss to Port Jefferson. The Boys Soccer team captured their 9th NYS Regional Championship in program history to reach the Final Four and won in the semifinal game by defeating Holland 3-1. The team also was presented with the Class C Sportsmanship Award for their exemplary sportsmanship during the state tournament. Congratulations on a great season!

Students Spread Holiday Cheer to Those in Need

This Thanksgiving, those in need will receive some unexpected well wishes from Castleton Elementary School students. Students recently made greeting cards in art class to donate to Equinox, a non-profit agency that provides free Thanksgiving dinners to those in need. Volunteers packing Thanksgiving dinners will place the student-made cards in with the meals. “The volunteers that deliver the dinners will deliver our warm wishes with the meals,” explained art teacher Suzanne Pazienza. “This child-art cards are sure to be uplifting and bring a smile to the recipients.”

EG Schools give Back

EAST GREENBUSH, November 22, 2011  -- The East Greenbush Central School District embodied the spirit of Thanksgiving by giving back to its school community. 

Columbia High School’s Leaders of Tomorrow and the Student Council organized a food driver for CoNSERNS-U (Community Network of Schodack, East Greenbush, Rensselaer, Nassau, and Sand Lake United).  Through the caring and generosity of Columbia’s school community, 80 cases of food were delivered on Tuesday afternoon, November 22nd.

The advertisement appeared in Thursday's edition of The Advertiser, a non-subscription weekly publication mailed to town residents. The letter targeted Toni Murphy, a Democrat seeking re-election Tuesday as East Greenbush's tax collector. The letter accused Murphy of rudely ordering an elderly man at a recent town meeting to "Sit Down!"
