Schodack
David Cassidy's drunken driving case is officially closed.

Cassidy, 65, was sentenced in town court in absentia for a 21-month-old arrest for driving while intoxicated.

Town Justice Bruce Wagner issued his 11-page ruling sentencing the former star of "The Partridge Family," who lives in Florida, to a $900 fine, suspending his driving privileges for six months and having an Ignition Interlock Device installed to prevent him from starting a car drunk. He also must do 50 hours of community service with the Children's Home Society of Florida and waive his right to appeal. Wagner's ruling allows Cassidy to avoid appearing in court.

Town Board Meetings

Kinder Morgan and Tennessee Gas pipeline companies propose to build a 36 inch diameter gas pipeline through Schodack. The pressure in these pipelines will be 1460 pounds per square inch, which is more than twice the volume and pressure in the existing 3 pipelines that go through our town. A large 90,000 horsepower compressor station, to push the gas along the pipeline, with three Titan 250 gas turbines is proposed on the Schodack/Nassau border (the existing Malden Bridge compressor station is a little over 10,000 HP). This is an industrial structure that emits noise and light 24/7 and off-gases periodically to regulate the pressure. The proposed pipeline would carry fracked gas from Pennsylvania through Schodack, Nassau and Stephentown and end in Dracut, Massachusetts. In September 2015 Kinder Morgan plans to file its application for approval to build this pipeline from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

This week are the town board meetings with Schodack (Thursday) and Nassau (Wednesday) where we hope both towns will pass strong resolutions opposing the pipeline. If you can, try to attend these meeting so our town officials realize how important this is to us.

Costco and Cabela's...wouldn't that be nice for Schodack?

Schodack has a similar situation with homeowners wanting tax benefits from commercial properties, but not wanting businesses too close! We are being taxed to death. Castleton's Main street is dying. There is a real need for businesses - lots of room on Route 9! Cabelas would attract customers from Pittsfield to Rensselaer, Hudson to Bennington!
Please Costco and Cabelas - Try again!

Public Notice: organizational meeting

Public notice to Schodack and Nassau residents,
Plans call for the 36-inch, pressurized pipeline to travel east from Wright in an existing Kinder Morgan right of way through Knox, Berne, New Scotland and Bethlehem, before crossing beneath the Hudson River at Schodack, Rensselaer County. TU 3/27
On Thursday, 4/2/15 at 7 PM, I am holding another organizational meeting in regards to opposition to the proposed NED pipeline and compressor station in our towns.

It will be held at the Senior center for the aging on rte 150 on the right just north of the intersection of Rt 20 and 150 if going north. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors. The past meeting we discussed our concerns about the pipeline, a general plan for upcoming public meetings, informing the public and voicing our opposition to our government leaders.

Our last meeting was a success with about 30+ in attendance. This time, we will work on forming smaller committees to address specific tasks, planning our strategy for the upcoming Kinder Morgan meeting April 13 at Green Meadow school 6-8 PM, sign letters to our elected officials and have an informational letter to distribute to Schodack residents. We also need to start planning our public forum on 5/5 /15 and how we will organize help with this meeting.

Thank you,
Lisa and Bill Zimmerman

Schodack Schools open despite boil water advisory

Boil Water Advisory Due to Village Water Main Break; School Will Still Open on Monday

Due to a water main break in the village, all three school buildings are under a boil water advisory until at least Monday, Feb. 23. This will not prevent schools from opening. Water coolers and cups are already in place in all three buildings. Plastic has been placed over water fountains. Signs directing individuals to avoid drinking tap water have been distributed. Chartwells Food Service is aware as well. “We’re all ready for school on Monday and even for tonight’s basketball game,” said Buildings and Grounds Superintendent Matt LaClair. “We’ve done this before when the village experienced water main breaks in the past.”

A pipeline through Schodack?

There is a public information session coming up, hosted by the company Kinder Morgan, on Monday, February 9, from 6 - 8 pm at Green Meadow Elementary.

The original plan for expansion was along the existing pipeline route, and that crosses through Schodack from west to east.  Now the company wants to lay the new pipe along a power line right-of-way, and with this alternative plan they are planning to build a new compression station in Rensselaer County, quite possibly in Schodack.

The same company has a compression station along Route 66 in Chatham already.

The company's filed plans show that the compression station could be in the area between Routes 9 and 20 (south of the split) near Shufelt Rd.
