The Friends of the Castleton Public Library will host Music on the Lawn on Thursday, August 18th at 6pm (not 6:30pm). 
Please join us as we listen to the music from the three part harmony The Hurleys. This event will occur on the front lawn of the Library/Village Hall at 85 S Main Street in Castleton

East Greenbush restricts water usage

The town of East Greenbush has restricted water use for at least a day and a half after a water main break Tuesday. 

The break was at Troy and Luther roads sometime before 11 a.m. Tuesday, the town website said.

South Mall Expressway to reopen Friday
The expressway was closed to traffic on July 13 after a bridge inspection revealed a 10-foot-long crack in the concrete pier cap beam of two piers carrying the bridge over Broadway.

New Borrowing Policies

The Castleton Public Library is adjusting its borrowing policies to be more consistent with libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System. The new policies are as follows:
  • Beginning August 1: All NEW adult fiction and nonfiction books will be loaned for a period of 14-days. This will only apply to NEW books checked out on or after August 1st.
The following policies are already in place:
  • All magazines will be loaned for a period of 14-days.
  • There is no longer a 3 DVD limit when borrowing DVDs.

Added Convenience


The new outdoor book return at the Castleton Public Library was installed this past Monday  by the Village DPW. The book drop box seems to be catching on! This allows patrons to return books 24/7 rather than only  during the Village Hall or Library business hours. 
"We hope you enjoy the added convenience," says Library Directory, Amy Peker.

95 degrees - how about going skating?

Rink fees waived at Knickerbacker Ice Arena

 

 


TROY – Mayor Harry Tutunjian has announced that, due to the recent spike in temperatures, fees for public skating at the Knickerbacker Ice Arena will be waived today and tomorrow. Public skating will be held today from 12:40 p.m. to 2 p.m. and tomorrow from 12:40 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7:20 p.m.

SCHODACK -- A truck fire closed I-90 eastbound between exits 11 and 12 on Monday afternoon. No one was injured and the lanes reopened about 5 p.m., according to State Police.

Police: Woman stabbed man at their Castleton home

SCHODACK -- A 43-year-old man is in stable condition a day after he was stabbed in the abdomen, and the 35-year-old woman with whom he lives has been charged with first degree assault in the domestic dispute, State Police said.

Great Grad Rates in Schodack!

Schodack CSD Has 2nd Highest Graduation Rate in the Area

An article in The Times Union on June 15 noted that Schodack CSD had the second highest graduation rate in the Capital Region according to the State Education Department's most recent data. Schodack CSD's 96% graduation rate was only one percentage point less than Voorheesville CSD, which had the highest graduation rate in the area. Posted 6/16/11.

Casey Anthony Trial Verdict:NOT GUILTY Of First-Degree Murder 

The case against Anthony was mostly circumstantial, but as it unfolded she was portrayed in the trial as a promiscuous, self-centered woman who became a cold-blooded killer. The motive, prosecutors alleged, was to allow her to live a carefree life without her daughter. 

Former FBI criminal profiler Candice De Long told The Huffington Post that the prosecution must have offended the jurors.


Bride and Groom? First day hiccup for NY same-sex marriages
New York was expecting an economic windfall from the legislation. But marriage license applications made available to same-sex couples for the first time on Tuesday still used the terms "bride" and "groom."
