Castleton Reservoir
Irene stopped by Castleton and dumped enough water to flood the pump-house. DPW workers spent the day closing roads and directing traffic, unplugging storm drops where water was coming up from the manholes. They spent hours clearing downed trees and assessing the damage. The Deputy Mayor and the Town Supervisor put into place a suggested evacuation of Main Street during high tide at about 6:30 p.m.
The boys worked most of the day to be sure that residents are safe and keep the Village roads are passable.

Photos: An Eerily Empty New York
New Yorkers are battening the hatches as Hurricane Irene bounds up the East Coast.
Mayor Bloomberg Friday ordered a mandatory evacuation for all residents of low-lying Zone A areas, and Far Rockaways, and the transit authority shut down all operations at noon Saturday. In advance of the storm, stores boarded up, lobbies gathered sand bags, volunteers organized evacuation centers, and residents stocked up on water, food (and plenty of alcohol).
The storm is expected to hit the city in earnest late Saturday or early Sunday, and New Yorkers were advised to keep off the roads and streets and stay indoors. Some eerie images have come out of this oncoming storm, as massive commuter sections like Grand Central are left completely desolate, and cabs roll down empty, wet streets.
LOOK to see how New Yorkers ready themselves for such an unprecedented storm:

Views photo from the event - check the right side of the home page.
The 2011 Clove Run will be held on Saturday, August 13, and will consisted of a 10 mile race, a 5 K race and a 1 mile FAMILY FUN Run. The start, finish, awards, refreshments, and entertainment for the races will take place at the Castleton Elementary School, which is located at 78 Scott Avenue, Castleton, NY. The 5K race and the FAMILY FUN Run will be take place in the Village of Castleton, while the 10 mile race will take place in the Village of of Castleton and the beautiful surrounding countryside. We believe that the Clove Run helps to bring the community closer together by providing opportunities for families and friends to socialize in active and healthy ways.
Donations and race registrations help support the race's beneficiary, the CCMS Anchor, a worthy non-profit food pantry in Castleton that assists the area's lowest-income families. Last year's race resulted in a donation of $4,000 to the Anchor. Racers are asked to contribute canned goods for the Anchor.
