Thursday 3/10 Schodack Town Board Meeting
Please attend Thursday's 3/10 Schodack Town Board Mtg. 7pm at Town Hall, 265 Schuurman Rd off Rte. 9 & 20 across from the Schodack Plaza.
Basically, the Supervisor and Town Board are still not prone to being creative and aggressive on our behalf in finding and carrying thru on ways to oppose the locating of the NED pipeline and compressor station in Schodack.
In addition to the proposed location of the NED Compressor Station (CS) on Clarks Chapel Rd, just over the Schodack border in Nassau, there are13 potential alternative locations that are in varying stages of consideration for the CS in Schodack, Nassau and Stephentown. Some locations are more likely than others. The 2 most likely alternative locations in Schodack are in East Schodack and on Rte. 9 near Shufelt & Maple Hill roads.

SNYFGP will continue its efforts to oppose and stop the Northeast Energy Direct pipeline and its compressor stations.
Stop the NY Fracked Gas Pipeline meeting at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, 38 Church Road, Selkirk.Thursday, February 25, from 6-8 pm.
After our recent successes, we will plan our efforts toward engaging more elected officials, fundraising, outreach, etc. This comes off the heels of the well attended public forum in January and the strong anti-pipeline resolution of the Bethlehem Town Board. Other towns are moving forward too--thanks to all of your efforts.

NED Compressor Station may be relocated in Schodack
Hopefully, by now you have learned that the NED Compressor Station may be relocated in Schodack rather than Nassau as previously announced.
Maple Hill HS being 1.6 miles from this location.
The Nassau location is a terrible spot for the NED Compressor Station and must be opposed, but so are the proposed locations in Schodack including the Rte. 9 (near Shufelt & Maple Hill Rd.) location and the 3 possible East Schodack locations between County Rte. 7 and Burden Lake Road. We need to oppose all the locations in Nassau and Schodack. All of them will hurt families and diminish property values and create health concerns.

Nassau town officials are pushing back
Nassau
Nassau town officials are pushing back against a planned natural gas pipeline project, asking federal regulators for more time to review un-released confidential plan documents filed this month and alerting the Rensselaer County district attorney that company workers are invoking town authority while trespassing on private property.
On Friday, town Supervisor David Fleming wrote to District Attorney Joel Abelove on a potential trespassing claim against pipeline development Kinder Morgan, and last week, wrote to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to urge that a public comment period set to expire Aug. 31 be extended so town officials can review a deluge of new company documents filed last month.
Fleming said Monday that he has gotten a complaint that survey workers from Kinder Morgan, which wants to build a portion of the 30-inch natural gas Northeast Energy Direct pipeline through southern Rensselaer County, were on private property last week off Reno Road and told the owner that the town had authorized it.

The revised route follows a National Grid power line right of way northeast from Schodack, south of Burden Lake and to near the intersection of routes 43 and 66 at the hamlet of Alps.

Why so mysterious?
"There is not much that we really know right now," Dowds said. "They were here with representatives from the county and said they really want a confidentiality clause at this time and we agreed."Perhaps the reason for secrecy is the neighbors past resistance to commercial business on a large scale. The site is considered prime for commercial development but there is great opposition that business would be a disruptive presence that would harm the rural town's character.
2001 a proposal to mine gravel from the southwest corner of the intersection on 9 & 20 and Rt. 150 failed
In 2012, Dollar Tree proposed a 1-million-square-foot distribution center with pressure from residents on Julianne Drive and Richwood Drive. Dollar Tree backed out.
Project Red has already come under fire from residents of the nearby neighborhoods.
The cloak and dagger approach isn't making the project very transparent.
