Marijuana industry battling stoner stereotypes DENVER (AP)

Tired of Cheech & Chong pot jokes and ominous anti-drug campaigns, the marijuana industry and activists are starting an ad blitz in Colorado aimed at promoting moderation and the safe consumption of pot.
To get their message across, they are skewering some of the old Drug War-era ads that focused on the fears of marijuana, including the famous "This is your brain on drugs" fried-egg ad from the 1980s.

Gregg Weinlein East Greenbush
Guess who got to see Lady GaGa recently in her Art Pop/Art Rave tour? My 10-year-old son went to her show at the Mohegan Sun Casino. All Beckett wanted for Christmas were tickets to a Lady GaGa concert. And Santa Claus came through.

But Santa was obviously too busy to consider the life situation of Beckett’s parents when he placed the holiday envelope with the concert tickets under the Christmas tree. So focused on my son’s prized gift, the great bearded one didn’t even realize the impact this present would have on Beckett’s parents.

What was Santa thinking, or drinking, when he got the tickets for Beckett? (Yes. I know I’m deflecting guilt.) Maybe he was packing a flask filled with vodka and Kahlua, and turning the milk left out with the cookies, into White Russians. Whatever the reason, Beckett’s tickets to the Lady GaGa concert created an unanticipated problem for Mom and Dad. Who was going to take Beckett to the show?

Longtime 'SNL' announcer Don Pardo dies at 96

NEW YORK (AP) — Few would recognize his face, but most would know his voice: that booming baritone that for nearly four decades would introduce the lineups on "Saturday Night Live."
Don Pardo, the durable television and radio announcer whose resonant voice-over style was widely imitated and became the standard in the field, died Monday in Arizona at the age of 96.
Pardo — a handsome man with a strong chin and confident smile that were overshadowed by his majestic delivery — graced newscasts, game shows and TV programs for more than 60 years. During the original version of "Jeopardy!," his answers to the question, "Tell 'em what they've won, Don Pardo," became a memorable part of the program.

By: Ben Gorenstein

ALBANY – Governor Andrew Cuomo says a bill has been reached to legalize medicinal marijuana in New York State.
Under the agreement which was announced Thursday afternoon, doctors would have to be legally certified to administer it, and patients would have to legally certify it is for medicinal purposes.
There are also fail-safes in place, which allow the governor to pull the program if anything goes wrong.
During the press conference, the governor called the legislation one of the toughest that’s been completed in the past four years.
He credits the legislature for being able to find common ground to help make the bill work.

Unlike some other states, the bill would not allow patients to smoke marijuana, which had been opposed by Cuomo. Instead, other forms of delivering the drug -- including oil-based extracts and vaporization -- would be authorized.

What do you think about the legalization of Medical Marijuana? Leave a comment and join the discussion.

OLD CHATHAM, N.Y. – Four women at Little Brook Farm performed an unexpected rescue Tuesday.
Owner Lynn Cross said several people were performing chores on the farm when she received a call around 3 p.m. Tuesday from worker Brianna Laraway. Laraway said she heard what sounded like a baby crying and saw a tiny nose stuck in a hole.
Cross was preparing to feed horses when she, Katelyn Storey and Erika Gentile went to find Laraway. All four women found a baby deer trapped about three feet below the surface in a woodchuck hole. Cross said they could see the deer’s leg, but the hole was too small to pull the deer above ground.
The women began to dig the deer out by hand. Cross said dirt would fall into the hole as they worked, but they were able to enlarge the hole enough to gain access.
After the deer was lifted out of the hole, Storey retrieved water to wipe the dirt from its eyes and mouth.
The deer is now with wildlife rehabilitators.
Little Brook Farm is an animal rescue and provides sanctuary to 60 horses, 70 cats and other animals. The farm is comprised of 143 acres, and it does not receive government funding, according to the website.
The farm’s website states the organization provides educational, vocational and therapeutic programs at the farm’s facility as well as over 80 schools, agencies and organizations.
